A little Champlain Heights history
Champlain Heights is unlike anywhere else in East Van. It was one of the last large tracts of Vancouver to be urbanized — planned in the early 1970s and built out into the early 1980s across a 614-acre site, with a deliberate mix of housing types and income levels. That's why you'll notice its curved roads and cul-de-sacs, a striking break from Vancouver's usual grid. It wraps around Everett Crowley Park, whose land was once a working landfill where waste reached nearly 50 metres deep before being transformed into one of the city's largest parks.
