Kitsilano takes its name from Squamish Chief August Jack Khatsahlano, whose people lived at the village of Senakw on the shores of False Creek. In the 1960s 'Kits' became a hub of West Coast counterculture, and after the war its stretch of West Broadway grew into Vancouver's Greektown.
