A little Mount Pleasant history
Mount Pleasant was named back in 1888 — after the Irish birthplace of pioneer landowner H.V. Edmonds' wife — making it one of Vancouver's earliest neighbourhoods. By 1904 the area was the city's industrial heart, with four breweries drawing water from the now-buried Brewery Creek (today's craft-beer scene around East 7th is a nod to that legacy). It's also home to Vancouver's first skateboard park (China Creek, 1979) and was the birthplace of the much-loved Vancouver Mural Festival, which left more than 100 murals across the area before wrapping up in 2024.
