A little Fairview history
Fairview was named in 1886 by a CPR land commissioner for its 'fair view' of the harbour, and grew into one of Vancouver's first streetcar suburbs after a line crossed the original Granville Bridge in 1891. Nearby Granville Island — built up from False Creek dredge fill in 1916 — opened its famous Public Market in 1978.
