A little Killarney history
Killarney was one of the last parts of Vancouver to be developed — largely second-growth forest until after the Second World War. It was part of the District of South Vancouver until amalgamation with the city in 1929. Its green crown jewel is Everett Crowley Park, Vancouver's fifth-largest park at about 40 hectares. Few visitors realize it was once the city's main landfill (the Kerr Road dump, 1944–1967) before being reforested and reopened as parkland in 1987 — a genuine East Van success story.
