Marpole is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in Vancouver — the site of an ancient Musqueam village and the Great Marpole Midden, a settlement dating back at least 4,000 years and one of the largest ancient village sites found in North America. The modern neighbourhood grew as 'Eburne Station' before being renamed in 1916 after a CPR superintendent.
