Oakridge was one of the last parts of Vancouver to be developed, mostly forested until the CPR opened the land in 1950 and young families filled it through the 1960s. It was home to Vancouver's first shopping centre, Oakridge Centre (1959), now being rebuilt into one of the city's largest mixed-use, high-density communities.
